Greek Slaw
1 egg, slightly beaten
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1/4 cup vinegar
3/4 cup water
1/2 mayonaise
1 tsp celery seed

Mix all except mayonaise and celery seed and cook over low heat 10 minutes or until thickened. Shred 1 medium head of cabbage real fine, moisten well with the mayonaise and add celery seed. Poor hot dressing over and stir well. Cover and refrigerate 24 hours.

Cherry Jello Salad
1 cup pop (Coke!)
1 cup nuts
1 cup cherry pie filing
1 cup crushed pineapple
1 large box cherry jello
3 tablespoon sugar
1 cup hot water

Mix jello and hot water, add sugar and stir well, add pop and pie filing . Put in freezer and when it starts to jell add fruits.

Turkey Dressing
6 cups corn bread
10 slices white bread, toasted and broken
2 med. chopped onions
1/2 cup chopped celery
2 eggs
1/2 stick butter
1/4 cup milk
1 tablespoon rosemary
1 teaspoon dry parsley flakes
1/2 teaspoon dry thyme
2 tablespoons sage
salt
1/2 teaspoon pepper
4-6 cups turkey broth

Mix all using more or less broth for desired softness, use sage according to taste. Remember to make corn bread 3 or 4 days in advance. Also can add well done chopped liver. Stuffs a 20 or so pound turkey.

Gingerbread
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 cup molasses
2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 &1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup sour milk
nuts and raisins if desired

Mix and bake in a loaf pan.   (this is all the recipe says to do!)

Blackberry Cake
1 & 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 tablespoon water
2 eggs
1 teaspoon soda
2 tablespoon cinnamon
2 cups plain flour
1 & 1/2 cups blackberries

Cream sugar and shortening, add water and eggs. Sift flour and soda and mix well with sugar mixture. Add cinnamon and berries. Bake in loaf pan for 30 minutes at 350 degrees.

Bread and Butter Pickles
4 qt sliced med cucumbers
6 med. white onions, sliced
2 green peppers chopped
3 cloves garlic
1/3 cup coarse salt
5 cups sugar
3 cups vinegar
1 & 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
1 & 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
2 tablespoons whole mustard seed

Do not peel cucumbers, slice thin and add onions, peppers, and garlic. Add salt. cover with cracked ice and mix throughly, let stand 3 hours. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over cucumbers and heat just to boil. Pour into hot jars, should be eight pints.

Molasses Stack Cake
4 cups flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup shortening
1/2 cup molasses
2 eggs
1 & 1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup buttermilk

Sift flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger together. Cream shortening, brown sugar, molasses and eggs together. Then add buttermilk and flour.  (Recipe stops here!)

Butterscotch Pie
1& 1/2 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup flour
1& 1/2 cup cold water
4 tablespoon butter
3 teaspoon vanilla
3 egg yolks beaten, save the whites for meringue

Cook all ingredients together until thickened, stirring continuously. Place in a baked pie shell and cover with meringue made from the 3 eggs whites. 
Meringue : beat egg whites until forms soft peaks. Beat in 6 tablespoons sugar one at a time and beat until forms hard peaks.  Spread on pie.
Brown slowly in 350 degree over.

Corn Cob Jelly
12 sweet corn cobs
4 cups water
4 cups sugar

Bring water to boil with cobs for 10 minutes. Measure out 3 cups of the broth and strain through cloth. Bring this strained mixture to boil and add 4 cups sugar. Simmer for 3 minutes, skim and add some food coloring if desired. Pour into glasses and seal. Jelly will be pretty and clear and tastes like honey.

Potato Puffs
2 or 3 cups left over mashed potatoes
1 med onion chopped
1 egg
flour
salt and pepper to taste

Mix all ingredients and add flour to make a good thick dough. Drop spoonfuls into hot grease and fry until brown.
