(Snapping Hazel or Winter Bloom) A common remedy in the
United States. Used as an astrigent when the leaves, bark or twigs
are mixed with alcohol and water. Applied with a damp steam towel
to bruises and strains or a cool compress for fever.Also used for a liniment
and eyewash and internal problems. Witch Hazel was once used
as a divining rod to detect water and minerals in the ground.When
the pods open up, the seeds shoot out into the air up to twenty feet.
