Lady's-slipper
Also named Moccasin Flower, Whippoorwill's-shoe, Indian shoe and American Valerian.This beautiful orchid was found in the woods near our home.  It blooms in May in Wise County.  Both pink and yellow species are found in the area.  American Indians used it for calming the nerves.  American doctors have perscribed the root for hysteria, irritability, headache and neuralgia.  It has a calming effect.
