Stafford County Legislative Petitions 1776 - 1781

1776, Oct. 15 - Petitions of the freeholders and inhabitants of the County of Stafford for a division of the Potomack to Rappahannock River ad a more convenient boundary. Commissioners were appointed to settle the line and a bill was brough in, but the Governor deserted his government and the business of the Assembly was obstructed. They ask passage of an act establishing the boundry set forth by the commissioners. The following signed petition:

Stafford County Deeds: pp 331-332

This Indenture made 14th November, in the ninth year of Amerian Independence, and in the year 1785 between Lewis PRITCHETT and Jane PRITCHETT his Wife of County of Stafford of one part and Peter WOOD of County of Culpeper of other part Witnesseth that for sum Ten pounds grant 100 acres (it being part of a tract taken up by John SAVAGE and at length sold to Roger DIXON and by him vonveyed to Marias Hansbrough and conveyed by HANSBOROUGH to the said Lewis PRITCHETT) in the County of Stafford on Branch of Aquia bounded at white oake, former corner of Tobias WOOD now to Marias HANSBROUGH ....at white oak, former corner of Tobias WOOD..... signed Lewis PRITCHETT

This indenture made 5th September 1785 between William MURPHY 7 Anna his wife of County of King George of one part and Peter WOOD of County of Clupepper & Richard COOPER of County of Stafford of other part Witnesseth that in consideration of five shilling Sterling money hath granted 244 acres being part of tract taken up ty Tobias WOOD beginning at Spanish oak near the Main Road, corner to LEWIS PRITCHETT, up Branch - to Peter's corner... to Beginning. At Court held for Stafford County 12 th September 1785... acknowledged foregoing deed the said Anna MURPHY being also privily examined and assenting thereto ... same is ordered to be certified.
