Hartwood (Old School) Baptist Church Cemetery

Contributed by: Homer Musselman
This cemetery is located in Hartwood on Shackelford's Well Road. The Potomac Baptist Church moved to Hartwood in 1776. The church was destroyed in the Civil War, however, the cemetery was used until 1900. The last person buried here was "Aunt" Puss King, either a former slave or the daughter of a slave. The most notable member of the congregation was Colonel James Garrard. He was in the Virginia Militia during the Revolutionary War. He subsequently moved to Kentucky where he was the governor from 1796 to 1804.

The information on this cemetery was taken from "Foundation Stones of Stafford County, Virginia.'
