Briggs Family Cemetery #1
Contributed by Homer Mussleman
Take Poplar Road (Route #616) to Route
#662. Turn onto Route #662 and go to first dirt road on right. This is a
telephone company right of way. Follow this road for 0.2 miles. The cemetery is
on the right. The cemetery is enclosed by a brick wall that is falling down.
There are numerous indications of unmarked graves. The following information
regarding this cemetery was taken from the Stafford County WPA Report. Andrew
Briggs (originally spelled Brigges) immigrated to Stafford County from Scotland.
He bought a farm here which he called "Scotland," after his native
homeland. He married a Curtis from Stafford. He left "Scotland" to
John W. Briggs, his son. The Curtis Memorial Park is located in this area. There
is additional information in the Stafford County WPA Report.
