Barber Family Cemetery

Contributed by Homer Musselman
The following information was taken from the Stafford County WPA Report. The WPA report contains additional information on the Barber family and the home site.

The report states that William Barber came to this country from England ca. 1735-1740. He bought property in 1780 in the Cropp area of Stafford County Route (#614 near the Fauquier County line.) William Barber married Ann Hickerson. The children produced by this marriage were: Elizabeth (b. Nov. 19, 1786), Winney (b. Feb. 23, 1789), Mary (b. Nov. 1, 1790), Sary (b. Jan. 1, 1793), Nathaniel (b. Nov. 6, 1797), Lucy (b. Feb. 11, 1800), Anne (b. Dec. 30, 1801), Kitty (b. July 4, 1804), and Matilda (b. Apr. 28, 1806.)

The property was divided among his children in 1820 with the house site passing to Anne Barber. James E. Bowling inherited the property in 1876 and it passed on to C. Gertrude Bowling in 1920.

Although the WPA report indicates that the cemetery contains numerous graves, the report only lists one grave.
