From the Stafford County Mailing List - December 2004

The article below appeared in the NEWS-OBSERVER (Herndon Observer Fairfax County News) on Thursday, 28 June 1934.

*NOTE: Hazel Keys [should say KEYES] was the daughter of Gordon Keys [KEYES] of Stafford County, who is sponsoring someone else.  Presumably it was thought more tactful for people not to sponsor their own daughters.

Independent Hill was in Prince William County.  The contestants came from 3 or 4 northern Virginia counties.

Ruby RUSSELL later married Walter William WARD.  Zella POSEY married Harold POTH.  Rowena POSEY married Thomas D. MILLER. Thresa COPEN married Lewis SUTHARD.  I think that Minnie RINES is the one listed in the 1930 census as the adopted daughter of William T. and Katie H. WINE.
