Timmons

Thomas Timmons died before 14 Aug 1734 in Stafford. I am trying to find out when Thomas arrived in Stafford. I assume he came from Ireland and was born around the 1668 time frame. He had a son named Samuel and a grandson named John. John eventually immigrated to Spartanburg SC. I wish to find out what land Thomas owned and when he acquired it. Thank you, Dave Mason, davwilm@toast.net

Withers / Keene

Thomas Withers married Elizabeth about 1745 probably in Overwharton Parish, Stafford Co., VA.  They attended the Aquia Episcopal Church.  I am searching for Elizabeth's parents and her vital record information.  She died before Thomas' will was dated November 5, 1794.  Thomas lived with his son, Joseph, in Fauquier Co., VA.  The Overwharton Parish Register does not include their marriage.

Matthew Keene married Bridgett. They attended the Aquia Episcopal Church. I am searching for Bridgett's parents and her vital record information. Since Mathew's will was proved April 14, 1731, Bridgett may have remarried.

Their daughter, Elizabeth (born about 1682), married James Withers. The Overwharton Parish Register does not include their marriage. Any help with either of these couples will be very much appreciated! Anita Schmidt, aschmidt2@roadrunner.com

Monroe

I am searching for (any) MONROE who may have had a male child that would have been born about 1814 in Stafford Co, VA. The child's name was Thomas C. MONROE. Thomas C. Monroe married to May Jane Graves in 1836 per a tiny 3 line announcement in the Fredericksburg Herald but there was no mention of the parents of either one, only that they were from Stafford Co. This my brick wall! Want to find more ancestors in that family. In 1820 Census records found a James MONROE that appears to have a son of that age. Now all I have to do is to find out more about this James and his family. If anyone can help me fill in the blanks, I would appreciate it! Joe, jnelson764@cox.net

Hinson / Henson

I am searching for genealogy related information about my ancestor Robert Henson who was born in Maryland in 1615 and was buried in Stafford County, VA in 1675. I am especially interested in formation about his parents as to their names and when/where they were born and buried. This line ties to the William Henson Family of Amherst County, VA who moved to Ohio in the 1850's.This is where I fit into this lineage. Any information that you can share with me would be gratefully appreciated. Sometimes the surname is spelled Hinson. Thank you, Ernest Henson at sonnyboy49@cox.net

MONROE

Thomas C. Monroe was born 19 Feb 1814 in Stafford Co VA (parents unknown) married Mary Jane GRAVES on 17 Mar 1836 in Fredericksburg VA (per Virginia Herald found at Lib
of VA) First child George Winchester MONROE born 7 Sep 1837 in warren Co, GA, later ended up in Alabama where he died in Autauga Co, 2 Jun 1865.  I have not been able to locate the cemetery where he was buried as yet. His wife later moved to TX where I have documented info down to myself.  I also have good info about her ancestry from "The Graves Family Association" The article in the "Virginia Herald" had Mary Jane MI wrong, and only mentioned that they were from Stafford Co, and did not mention the parents of either one of them. HANSBROUGH / HANBURY

Would like to correspond with anyone who is researching the Hansbrough-Hanbury Family.  John Hanbury supposedly came to Virginia from Bristol, England in 1639 and landed in Norfolk County.  He is supposed to have had a son Nicholas Hanbury who had a son Morris Hanbury (he appears on a quit rent roll of King and Queen County for 1704.)  Morris then had a son Peter, b. ca 1700 who lived in Stafford County, married unknown and had at least four sons:  James, Peter, Morias, William, all born ca 1719 to 1730.  Have been researching connection of John Hanbury the immigrant to Morris but cannot find proof.  Cannot find records of Nicholas and Morris has only record I can find ?  I can trace John Hanbury back to the Scottish and Saxon Kings in England.  Will share what I have with other interested researchers.

MULLIN

I am interested in any information on William Mullin who first appears in Stafford County in 1776 and appears to have worked in the forge/ironworks.  His wife was Elizabeth and he may have had the following children: John C., Edward, Dennis.  He died 1791 while in Middlesex County.  I have not been able to trace John C. or Edward but am hoping that they may have remained in the county. I am the 4th gr-granddaughter of Dennis Mullin and am trying to link him to William Mullin as his father.  Dennis served in the RW in the MD 7th and was probably taken prisoner at the Battle of Camden.  He appears in Fauquier County in 1784, in Pittsylvania County 1787-1789, Henry County 1790-1791.  He then appears in King George 1791-1798 and Stafford 1799-1801.  Dennis witnessed a deed from Richard Brent of Prince William County to John Alexander Stuart of King George County in 1791 when he sold the remainder of Margaret Brent's patent.  (In 1787 Richard Brent and his Mother Eleanor, wife of William Brent of Stafford County, sold land in King George County willed to Richard subject to his Mother's dower; there were three parcels sold to Townshend Dade (of King George), John Alexander Stuart (of King George), and Raleigh Travers Brown (of Stafford); all of these parcels were in King George County.   In 1801, Dennis witnessed a deed for land (in King George County) from Henry Mifflin of Caroline County to Charles Mifflin of Stafford County, that bounded on the land of Mildred Clifton, widow of William Clifton of Stafford County. I am pursuing the possibility that William Mullin may have married Elizabeth Clifton, daughter of William Clifton and his first wife Frances Hill.  Dennis served in the KG militia in Charles Stuart's district.Dennis ultimately migrated south into NC where he married Lydia Keys and showed up in 1805 in Burke County.  He died there ca. 1808. Any information on William, Elizabeth, John C. or Edward Mullin would be appreciated. Madaline MVanhoose@aol.com

JEWELL

Need helping find Presley Jewell's parents, and children in Stafford County, VA.  I presume Presley was born about 1754.  His April, 1826 Will mentions one son Benson, and one grandson Bailey Bridwell, which would appear that he had at least one daughter who married a Bridwell.  I believe this daughter to be Frances who married Henry Bridwell.  Stafford County is a burned county so finding records is difficult at best.  I am going to Northern Neck, VA in May and would appreciate any tips, leads, information, whatever on this family line.  My pedigree is as follows: Paul my father, Claude, John Ezra, Vardiman, Moses, Sanford, and presumably Presley.  I'm interested in Jewells in MD, NJ and VA.  Hopefully, somebody will claim Presley as one of their ancestors and has some information on his lineage. Thanks so much, Paula Jewell Edens.  Please contact me directly at pje6431@hotmail.com.

BOSWELL

I have Boswells who appeared in Prince William County after it was
separated from Stafford County, VA.  The Boswell family seems to have
had connections with a Peyton family, and I am hoping to find some
records or data which might apply to these two families, and more
significantly tie the two families together.  I am a descendant of
Edward Boswell who was born in 1749 in Virginia and died in Caswell
County, NC in 1838.  He and a Valentine Peyton proved the will of Henry
Peyton in court in Prince William County, Va.  Edward Boswell and
Valentine Peyton share more than just living  in the same county; they
each named sons with the given name of Craven.  Edward's supposed
brother, Hezekiah Boswell also had a son named Craven.

I will hope to hear from researchers who may have any kind of data on
either of these two families. Best regards, John Fox bebenjohn@aol.com

I've had difficulty tracing the Lowry family back much further than this generation, and I was hoping to contact someone who might have some details they might be willing to share with me. I live in Washington, DC and can certainly drive down to Stafford to pursue further research, but I was hoping to get a bit of a head start by knowing where and about whom to look....Thanks so much, Amy Patterson Amy@AAFA.org

MUSCOE

My brick wall is Salvator Muscoe, Jr., who was born in St. Giles-in-the-Fields, near London, England in 1674, son of Salvator Muscoe, Sr., who was born in Italy. The first record of him in VA. has him in Essex County, VA. ca. 1702-04. I've been searching through the Roots Web World Connect Project, and several researchers there say that Salvator Muscoe, Jr. and Sr., came to Virginia in ca. 1685. They lived first in Gloucester Co., VA. and then in  Stafford Co., VA., before coming to Essex Co., VA. in ca. 1702-04, these researchers say. They give no source for this information, but it is repeated over and over in their files. They even say that Salvator, Sr. was born in Italy ca. 1645, but I have no idea where these items come from. I am searching for any indication that Salvator Muscoe, Jr. or Sr. was in Stafford County, VA. Can anyone prove or disprove it? Any help at all would be very much appreciated. Jean Mayo

I am keeping my fingers crossed that there is someone who can help me further in researching my Hanback line.  I'm so excited because I just found that my grandfather's oldest sister, Gertrude Hanback Peyton, is buried at New Hope Church Cemetery.  One of her daughters is buried there as well.  Any information I can find on Gertrude will surely help in my Hanback research.  Gertrude's parents were John W. Hanback and Anna Lee Ball.  Gertrude owned a large dairy farm near Fredericksburg and I'm betting that some of this land was passed down to her through her father, and his father, etc. John Hanback's parents were William Henry Hanback married to Lucy Thayer. Phyllis Farmer has already provided me with quite a bit of information going back through Lucy Thayer.  Could you please refer me to someone who can help me find out more about Gertrude Hanback Peyton and her farm? HELMS

I am researching the history and ancestry of Robert Helms.  He was born a free black man in Stafford, Va. in about 1824-6.  This information is according to his death announcement in a Rochelle, Illinois, newspaper in 1874.   He was a barber by trade and was a soldier in the Civil War in the 5th Colored heavy artillery.  In writing the sesquicentennial history of our city, Rochelle, Il., I discovered a newspaper notice of the death of his son, Frederick Douglas Helms, in an incident at the elementary school.  I subsequently learned much more information that only increased my curiosity about this individual and his family.  I have pension records resulting from his widow's pension application and other references in our local newspaper.  If you could provide any birth information, etc, I would very much appreciate it.  I plan to do a project on his life, war service and death for our local historical society. If there would be a charge for research, please let me know before
proceeding. Sincerely, Robert Gingerich gingeric@rochelle.net

PATTISON/PATTESON

For sometime now, I have been trying to find information on the family of my paternal 6th great grandmother, Jannet/Jeannette PATTISON/PATTESON, born in or abt. 1710 in Overwharton Parish, Stafford County, Virginia, who married 1st husband, Henry CONYERS, and then married 2nd husband, Randolph/Randol HOL(D)BROOK, my 6th great grandfather.  Their daughter and my 5th great grandmother, Elizabeth HOL(D)BROOK, married as the 2nd and much younger wife of my 5th great grandfather, (Major) Samuel EARLE, III, (widower from 1st marriage to Anna SORRELL.)  From Elizabeth and Samuel, I descend through their son, (2nd of his name as his father's first marriage produced a son of the same name who died in his 20s,) (Sgt.) Samuel EARLE, IV, (RS,) who married Tabitha WILLIAMS.  (Major) Samuel EARLE, III was the son of Phillis BENNETT and Samuel EARLE, II, son of Bridget HA(Y)LE(S,) (1st wife,) and Samuel EARLE, I, (later married 2nd wife, Mat(t)ilda ALLERTON who later married 2nd husband, William RUST/RUSH, and 3rd husband, John BENNETT, (believed to be father of Phillis BENNETT.)  Samuel EARLE, I was an immigrant from England to Virginia in 1652 and the son of immigrants, Mary SYM(M)ON(D)S, (1st wife,) and husband, (Sir) John EARLE, I/Sr., who immigrated before his family in 1649 from England into St. Mary's County, Maryland and then quickly settled Yeocomico Plantation in Northumberland County, Virginia where his family stayed for many years after it became Westmoreland County, Virginia.

From her 1st known marriage to Henry CONYERS, Jannet/Jeannette PATTISON/PATTESON had a daughter named Sarah Pattison/Patteson CONYERS who married Thomas HAMPTON. Is it possible that you might have information on the aforementioned Jannet/Jeannette PATTISON/PATTESON and/or her parents and/or siblings?
