SURNAMES: BLANKENBECKLER
Hallie Garner Monday, July 3, 2000
I am a researcher of the descendants of Zachariah Blankenbeckler who lived on the South Fork of the Holston in what is known as the Sugar Grove area of Smyth Co.. His descendants number in the thousands and I would like to trace them all.

Two sons remained in the Smyth Co.--Aaron and George, while son Jesse went to Scott Co. and son John went to Carter Co. KY.

There were also daughters that married Quillen, Griffitts, Johnson and Cloud! This Quillen family is not the Scott Co. Quillen family, so I would like to make contact with anyone of that family, too. I havenot made a connection with the Samuel Cloud or Robert Johnson family, as yet, and do not know where they went when they left Wythe-Smyth Co.

Of course many other names fit into this family--Earnest, Osborne, Calhoun, Hubble, Freeman...loads of others because of daughters. I will welcome correspondence with anyone and will help you make a connection if I can if you'll help me with your family in exchange. Usually I need to know your connection to your grandparents at least, depending on your age.

I am researching my mother's side of the family. Her father is Joseph Benjamin Harris. His mother’s name is Willie Anderson. His father died when he was young. I found Willie Anderson’s name in the marriage records for Smyth County. She married a Jos. Hawkins. I’m not sure if this is my grandfather’s father. Willie had four children with her first husband, Joseph, Nan, Bill, and John. After the death of her first husband she married Andrew Jackson Harris. Willie’s children took the Harris name. I haven’t been able to find the birth of Joseph Benjamin. The family said he was born in Smyth Co. Joseph Benjamin Harris married Willie Glynn Harris who was from Giles Co. Her father was Joseph Lias Harris. Joseph Lias is the brother of Andrew Jackson Harris. Their father was Thomas A. Harris. He married Elenor Porter January 30, 1862 in Smyth Co.. They had five children, Elizabeth, Andrew, Joseph, Robert and Margaret who all were born in Smyth Co. I would appreciate any information anyone might have on any of these families. Thanks, Ida

I have a picture of a family sitting under a tree with a river in the background (probably Holston). My Grandmother was from Smyth County and her father's name was Willam Dunlap WILSON, but we know it isn't him. I think the picture was taken in the early 1900's by the bows in the girls hair and the knickers on the younger boy and by the length on the dresses. There are 11 children in the picture. The name on the back is W. D. WILSON, it also mentions the little girl's name in the front, standing between the grandparents, as being Marie. Three little girls including Marie have the letter B. on there dresses and it says they are Mary's children. Anybody know whose family this is?
