The Smyth County Museum and Historical Society has a new headquarters, the STALEY-COLLINS HOUSE. Located at 109 W. Strother in Marion (540 783-7067; email: history@netva.com), the hours are from 10 to 3 o'clock Wednesday and Thursday. The new Museum, located in the old 1908 School at the intersection of Strother and Church Streets, is open Friday and Saturday 10 - 4 o'clock (540) 783-7286. Joan Armstrong is Director of the Museum.
SETTLERS MUSEUM of SOUTHWEST VIRGINIA
The museum includes a visitor's center, 1890's farm, farmhouse and school. The story of the migration of German and Scots-Irish pioneers is told in the visitor's center. Visitors may tour the restored 1894 Lindamood School. The farm, with its restored farmhouse and outbuildings , has the look and feel of an average farm in this area 100 years ago.
Take Exit 54 from I-81; from the exit ramp, turn right onto Rt. 11, left on state road 683 (Phillippi Hollow Road). At the intersection with Rocky Hollow Rd., turn left. Follow Rocky Hollow Rd. to the Settlers Museum on the right. If you get lost, call 540-686-4401.
