L.S. Walker's letter to Stuart Walker of Martinsburg, West Virginia

Sounds like the month of June was a wet one in 1889!
L.S. Walker was not only the clerk of the Shenandoah County Court, but also a first lieutenant in the local militia, the Anderson Guards.

Office of L.S. Walker Clerk Shenandoah County Court, Woodstock, Va., June 29, 1889 Stuart W. Walker, Esq. Ch. Cmtee. 4 July Cel. Dr. Sir: I am sorry to inform you that on account of the many rains we have had around us for the past month, the wheat, hay harvest & corn plowing has been delayed for several weeks and as most of our men are engaged in that business, they find it impossible to be able to accept your invitation on the 4th July next. Is anyone familiar with the family of this man? Was he Luther Sommers Walker, died 16 Aug 1907, at the age of fifty, marriend Annie Haas, and the son of Samuel T. Walker (d. at Chancellorsville, 1863) and Mary Sommers Walker Zirkle (m. Lewis Zirkle)? I would like to include information about this L.S.
