Phillips - Thomas. More than usual speculation and curiosity were manifested by a number of persons Sunday morning, as to two of New Market's young citizens. Miss Mary Elizabeth Phillips and Mr. Abraham Miller Thomas, accompanied by his brother Mr. S. L. Thomas and Miss Sue Neff, (the latter residing near this place), left here at 9 o' clock on the morning above indicated, in buggies, for a little pleasure drive, as they intimated. They drove to Woodstock to Geary's hotel, where they took dinner and after which, at 2 o' clock, came the marriage ceremony of Miss Phillips and Mr. Abram Thomas, the Rev. Dr. P. D. Stephenson performing the ceremony---Mr. Thomas having secured the marriage license in Woodstock, on Thursday previous, Nov. 21, 1901. Mr. S. L. Thomas and Miss Neff returned Sunday night, and the bride and groom the following Monday afternoon. Despite "the boys penned them out" at the north end of town, and they avoided a similar experience by coming up through Cleveland avenue. On Wednesday a dinner was given them by the groom's parents Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Thomas, and on Thursday one by the parents of the bride - "abounding feasts" - which were enjoyed by the "family folks" and the happy young couple, whom their friends wish well. The bride is the only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Phillips, and will remain with them for a short time, until they go to housekeeping in New Market. |
