Deane - Hammond. Today, we received a clipping (no date given) from the DAILY MOON, Battle Creek, Mich., which we publish as follows: "Last evening a small but pretty wedding was celebrated at Goguac lake. It was quite a novel affair because of the fact that it was the first wedding ever solemnized in a cottage at that popular resort. The marriage took place at Rev. George W. Buckley's cottage, "Outlook," on Waupakisco beach, which is occupied by Mrs. Hammond, of Rockford, Ill. The contracting parties were Miss Elizabeth Deane, of Mt. Jackson, Va., and Royal W. Hammond, son of the lady who is at present occupying the cottage. The ceremony was performed at 8.30 o' clock, Elder S. H. Lane officiating. The bridal party took their places in front of a grate tastefully banked with wild ferns and they stood under an arch of wild ferns from which was suspended a wedding bell of ferns and carnations. The clapper was composed of two white roses, and a bag of rice, unbeknown to the bride or groom, was cleverly concealed between these, by some of the bride's girl friends, and immediately after the words had been spoken which made the couple man and wife, the bag was opened by a string which had been attached for that purpose, and the happy pair were generously showered with rice. The bride was gowned in a beautiful but simple dress of white wash chiffon. she carried a shower bouquet of white bridal roses, and was unattended. Immediately after the ceremony dainty refreshments were served, and the remainder of the evening was spent in social conversation. The Metropolitan Harp Orchestra furnished some delightful music during the evening. The house throughout was artistically trimmed with ferns, and many Japanese lanterns hung about the lawn threw a mellow light upon the scene. Mr. Hammond is superintendent of the Wheat Food company of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond will be at home to their many friends at their cottage on Waupakisco beach during the remainder of the summer. Box number, 1938. Mr. and Mrs. McDowell of Rockford, Ill., were the guests from out of the city. The latter is a sister of the groom. Mr. and Mrs. Hammond have the best wishes of many friends for along life and much happiness. The MOON extends congratulations. |
