An Elopement

There has been much talk "in town and country," as to the elopement of Mr. Abram L. Burkholder, fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. Abram Burkholder, living near New Market, and Miss Edna E. Higgs, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Reuben Higgs, of Hupp, who has been staying with Mr. Samuel R. Hoover's family near this place.

Tuesday evening, Mr. Burkholder met her at the home of a friend---and there is always one or more in such cases----on the suburbs of New Market, and drove to Rileyville, Page county, arriving there at 12 o' clock at night. There they took the 7:45 a. m. train for Hagerstown, Md., where they were married in the Methodist parsonage by Rev. W. C. Griffith, at 11 o' clock a. m., and young Mr. B. proudly showed us a certificate to this effect, today. They took in the Hagerstown fair and returned to Rileyville Wednesday night, arriving at the home of Mr. Pius Combs, quite near town, this morning at 2 o'clock, where they now are; but expect to go to housekeeping in this place in a week or two.

The groom is 23 and bride 18 years old. Love knows no law, and contrives many devices to consummate marriage.
