Shenstone

One of the familiar landmarks on the Valley Pike is the old mansion on the high bank of Mill Creek, just at the south end of Mt. Jackson. In what year this old house was erected is not known, but it was owned for years by the Siglers, who sold it to Samuel Moore, father of Samuel and Morgan Moore, shortly before the Civil War. For many years in later times, it was the home of Morgan Moore, a well known and popular citizen of Mt. Jackson, brother to Samuel Moore of Quicksburg. More recently (1927), Shenstone has been occupied by Morgan Moore's daughter, Miss Effie Moore.
