On the west side of the Pike, just above Hupp's Shop, is the red brick house occupied for many years prior to 1895 by Dr. F.E. Rice. More recently (1927), for perhaps fifteen or twenty years, it was the home of Mr. John E. Neff. This house occupies the site, as Miss Selina Strickler remembers, of an old Neff home, the birthplace, it is said, of Capt. David Tennessee NEff (1808-1887).
