Near Stanley Hall, about half a mile north, is the old Bushong House, still bearing in its weatherbeaten sides the scars it received from shot and shell in the battle of New Market, 15 May 1864. In their charge upon the Federal lines, the V.M.I. Cadets passed this old house, part of the line on one side, part on the other. Stanley Hall was also in the lines of fire during the same battle, as indeed were all the houses thereabouts.
