27 Oct 1784: Christian Stover (son and heir at law of Jacob Stover, dec'd.) sold to Mathias Smutz 425 acres of land which was granted to Jacob Stover, dec'd., from Thomas Lord Fairfax May 29, 1761, and the said Jacob Stover, having died intestate, this same land descended to his eldest son, Christian Stover. This is a two and one half story, L-shaped log house with three inside brick chimneys. The roof is metal, but was formerly shingled. The weatherboarding is plain and very wide. The cornices are plain wood. There are eighteen windows with twelve 8x10 panes. There is a portico with square posts and railings. The entrance is a wide five-panel door with transom; the top panel is horizontal and the other four are vertical.

There are nine large rooms and the ceiling height is nine feet. The concealed stairway has a five-panel door. The other doors are either five- or six-panel with two crosses, and the material is pine. The walls are papered. There is a chair rail throughout the house. The doors have iron locks and hinges. The wide floor boards vary in width. There is a low-ceilinged cellar under part of the house. The house is in fair condition.

Philip Smoot was in the militia during the Civil War.
