September 16, 1861: Solomon D. Henkel sold to Henry Guard.

This is a colonial house. The doors are two long panels, the panels being "V" shaped. The trim around the doors and windows is plain with fancy moulding. The porch runs the whole west side of the house and has a bay window on same. The fireplace trim is like the doors and windows. The floors are of wide boards with square iron nails.

This home is the birthplace of Henry Guard, son of Henry Guard, who was wounded in France during World War I. Henry Guard is now (1937) postmaster in Charleston, West Virginia.
