The Noah Wolfe Farm (a.k.a. the Joshua Foltz Farm)

Location: One mile south of Conicville, Virginia, on Back Road, one quarter mile east over the hill.

Built: circa 1836-1840

Owners:

Joseph Foltz and Susannah, his wife, sold to Benjamin Wendle land which Jacob Spitler and Susannah, his wife, sold to Joseph Foltz April 27, 1791, and which Jacob Spitler bought of Abraham Spitler Aug. 27, 1776. Deed Book X, page 301

7 Mar 1820: Benjamin Wendle and Catharine, his wife, sold to George Lindamood (son of George Henry Lindamood) two tracts of land on the northwest side of Buck Hill. Deed Book AA, page 1

George Lindamood, dec'd., bequeathed to Nathaniel Armentrout all his real estate. Made Feb. 9, 1850; probated April 8, 1867. Will Book 12, page 434

14 Oct 1875: Nathaniel Armentrout and Lucinda, his wife, sold to Noah Wolfe. Deed Book 13, page 184-185

1 Dec 1900: Noah Wolfe and Serilla (sic) Wolfe, his wife, sold to Mattie L. Fletcher and J.R. Fletcher land which said Mattie should have title to the whole in event of J.R. Fletcher's death before her death. Whereas J.R. Fletcher has preceded Mattie L. Fletcher in death. Deed Book 53, page 406

Physical Description

This is an oblong, two-story log house with metal roof and one chimney in the center. The weatherboarding is plain. There ere eleven windows having twelve 8x10 panes. A porch extends across the front of the house. The entrance is a four-panel door.

There are seven rooms and the ceiling is eight and one half feet height. There is a straight box staircase. The cellar is plain stone. The four-panel doors have plain iron locks and hinges. The walls are papered or painted. The floors are of wide boards. The house has not been hurt architecturally by remodeling.
