Physical DescriptionVery little of this old house remains at present (1937), but enough of the beaded wide board partitions, wainscoting, and batten doors to show that it was probably built about 1800. The entire house has been remodeled.
It stands on a high cliff above Toms Brook (creek). A narrow winding path leads up this steep cliff. A white picket fence surrounds the house; old stone steps to the gate, old trees, old shrubbery, log outbuilding; all give a general appearance of age to the place. A wild overgrown graveyard is nearby.
John Jacobs was an artist with the pen, and in hand-crafts. Some beautiful work by him is in this home. There are many old portraits.
Historical SignificanceNo conveyance of real estate could be traced in Court Records. Several deeds for personal property to individuals were found, also deed for slave.
21 Nov 1823, Deed Book CC, page 425: John Jacob conveys to his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Thatcher, for the sum of $1.00, and in consideration of the natural love and affection which he has and bears for his sister-in-law, the following property:

| 4 pair cotton sheets | 1/2 doz. knives and forks |
