Physical Description

After Mrs. Hackley bought this house, she remodeled it. She took out the old fireplace and put windows in. when the up and down boards were removed there was a grown of grass underneath about six inches long. It is not known just when the grass grew, as it was dead when discovered. The house was plastered between the logs with sod.

Historical Significance

In Wayland's History of Shenandoah County, Joseph Hawkins is named owner of the property. Joseph Hawkins is buried in Hawkinstown.
