The hatters shop was torn away, and the ordinary country store took its place. Nothing remains of this industry except the stories of how fine felt hats were made from fur and wool. A large kettle, holding approximately one hundred twenty five gallons was used in the preparation of material, that is cooking the wool and fur together, which was later pressed and molded into shape.

A man by the name of Clapsaddle operated this Hatters Shop, but further information about him is not available, except that he was murdered in 1849.

The previously mentioned large kettle was sold at the Cullers' sale, and hauled to the foundry at Woodstock, Virginia, where it was broken up and melted over, then made into several smaller kettles.
