22 Apr 1857: Solomon P. Rupert sold to John McDaniel for $50.00 "a certain tract of land on Liene Street in New Market, Virginia." Deed Book 4, p. 361

4 Oct 1867: D. F. Kagey sold to Dr. Joseph Strayer for $150.00 "home and lot in New Market on Liene Street." Deed Book 8, page 291

20 Sep 1872: Joseph Strayer and Fannie C. Strayer, his wife, conveyed to Austin Chapman (colored) "a lot of 1/4 A. and house known as lot #93 for $190 which was due said Chapman for work." Deed Book 11, p. 358




Physical Description

This is an oblong one and one half story plain weatherboard log structure with no cellar and a metal hipped roof. Three brick chimneys are located at either end of the structure and in the center. A one story porch across the front of the house has square columns and a glass door. There are fifteen windows with four 12x18 panes. The house's five rooms have seven-foot ceilings. Wide board doors have iron locks and hinges, while the walls are of plain log, plastered in original finish. The house has one closed, plain stairway and the floors are of wide boards with square nails.
