THE RIGHT HONOURABLE THOMAS LORD FAIRFAX Baron of Cameron in that part of Great Britain called Scotland, Proprietor of the Northern Neck of Virginia To all to whom this present writing shall come sends Greeting. Know you that for good causes for and in consideration of the composition to me paid and for the annual rent herein after reserved I have given granted and confirmed and by those presents for me my heirs and I assign do Give Grant & confirm unto Philip Baker of Frederick County a certain Tract of wasted and ungranted Land on the branches of the passum(?) in the said County & bounded as by a Survey thereof made by Mr. George Hume. Beginning at a red oak and white oak in the fork of the said passum(?) and Extending thence So West three hundred and twenty poles to a red oak on the side of a Mountain, thence 17 degrees west two hundred poles to three pines, thence 17 degrees East three and twenty poles to two white oaks and a red oak, thence to East two hundred poles to the Beginning containing four hundred acres. Together with all rights Members and Appurtenances thereunto belonging Royal monies Accepted and a full third part of all Lead Copper Tinn Cols Iron Mine and Iron Ore that shall be found thereon to have and to hold the said Four hundred acres of land Together with all rights profits and benefits to the same belonging or in any wise Appointing. Except before Excepted to him the said Philip Baker his heirs and Assigns for Ever, he the said Philip Baker his heirs and assigns therefore and Yielding and paying to me my heirs or assigns or to my certain Attorney or Attorneys Agent or Agents or to the certain Attorney or Attorneys of my heirs or Assigns Proprietors of the said Northern Neck Yearly and every Year on the Feast Day of St. Michael the archangel the Fee rent of one shilling sterling Money for every Fifty acres of Land hereby Granted & so proportionally for a Greater or Lesser quantity provided that if the said Philip Baker his heirs or assigns shall not pay the said received annual rent as aforesaid so that the same as any part thereof shall be behind or unpaid by the space of two whole years after the same shall become due if Legally demanded that there it shall and may be lawful for me my heirs or Assigns Proprietors as aforesaid my or their certain Attorney or Attorneys Agent or Agents into the above Granted premises to reenter and hold the same so as if this Grant had never passed. Given at my office in the county of Frederick under my hand and seal dated this third Day of September In the second year of his Majesty King George the thirds reign 1762 |
NOTE: Shenandoah County was part of Frederick County until 1772, at which time it was formed under the name "Dunmore" County.
