History: Old Edinburg cemetery is one of the oldest in this area, dating to before the Revolutionary war. The earliest legible headstone belongs to Lucy L. Miller. Who died May 9, 1832. The last person buried here was Franklin C. Evans on October 12, 1969. The original entrance was located on the North side overlooking Main Street. The area now uses Cedarwood Cemetery. This area was the site of Confederate cannon during the Civil War. From this site the Southern forces fired over the town at Northern cannon located on Schoolhouse Hill. By: The Edinburg Heritage Foundation, 1995 Directions: Going South on Rt. 11, just past Cedarwood Cemetery in Edinburg is Palmyra Church Road. Turn left onto Palmyra Church Road and only a short distance on the left is the Waterbrook Brethren Church. On the left side of the church is a driveway that leads to the cemetery. The cemetery is not in view from anywhere until you drive past the church. |
