Vivian Fansler Moomaw

Vivian Fansler Moomaw, 87, of Orkney Springs, passed away Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at Rockingham Memorial Hospital a few days after suffering a stroke.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 25, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Basye, with Pastor David Drebes officiating.

Visitation will be Friday, June 24, from 7-9 p.m., also at Prince of Peace.

Mrs. Moomaw, daughter of Boyd Ashby Fansler and Edna Blanche Estep, was born December 10, 1923 in Orkney Springs.

After graduating from Triplett High School, Mt. Jackson, she married Leo Vincent Moomaw on September 29, 1942. He preceded her in death on June 9, 1982.

Survivors are sons, Allen Douglas Moomaw, Ronald Lee Moomaw and wife Juliana of Orkney Springs; a sister, Mabel Fravel and family of Basye; two granddaughters, Sara Moomaw and husband Brian Hyatt of Alexandria, and Kate Moomaw of Denver, Colorado; plus many nieces, nephews, and cousins, many of whom refer to her as Aunt Vivian.

Mrs. Moomaw began working for Drug Fair in Maryland and continued at Front Royal, Virginia until retirement. During the 1950s and 1960s, she and her husband ran a restaurant in Orkney Springs; in the 1980s and 1990s, she worked at the Community Store in Basye.

Pallbearers will be her nephews, Dick Moomaw, John Moomaw, Tommy Fravel, Charlie Fravel, Clarence Fansler, Jack Fansler, and friend, John McInteer.

Honorary pallbearers will be other relatives, Tom Stieler, Gary Coffman, Randy Helsley, Randy Moomaw, Steve Moomaw, Brian Hyatt, and John Chilton.

Memorials may be made in the form of flowers or as contributions to Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 626, Basye, Virginia 22810 or the Orkney Springs Fire and Rescue, Inc., P.O. Box 374, Basye, Virginia 22810.

Arrangements are being handled by Dellinger Funeral Home, Mt. Jackson.
