Death of Mr. Noah Andes After an illness of a few weeks, through able to be up in a chair to within a few days of his death, Mr. Noah Andes died at his home, 5 miles northwest of Timberville, Va., Dec. 6, 1901; aged 83 years, 7 months, and 20 days-----death being due to infirmities of old age. His remains were interred in the old home graveyard, with services in Mt. Olivet church, nearby, on Sunday morning, Dec. 8, Elder Daniel Hays of the German Baptist church, of which Mr. Andes was a devout member, officiating, assisted by Elder D. P. Wine. The funeral was largely attended and the church not sufficiently large to accommodate the people. The deceased leaves one brother Andrew, living in Indiana; a sister Mrs. Wm. Swartz, Alonzaville, Va.; two sons, Jacob W. (married) and John K. at the old home place, and a daughter Mrs. John H. Garber, 2 1/2 miles northeast of this place. His wife, who was a Miss Sarah Driver, of Rockingham county, died nearly four years ago. Mr. Andes led an upright life, possessing strong convictions, and was a "union man" before and during the war, and a successful farmer. He was a son of William Andes, who died in the 80th year of his age, William being a son of Andrew who died in the 73d year of his age. All are buried at the old home place, where Andrew Andes came with the earliest settlers of this section, far back in 1700, and "took up" by patent 600 or more acres of land , some of which remains in the family to this day. |
