The Burial of Mr. Platt.

Messrs. L. P. Henkel, B. T. Bowman, M. White Williamson, C. A. White, G. A. Guard, and Joseph Rife were pall-bearers at the burial of the body of Mr. Jerome A. Platt, aged 78, in Emmanuel Lutheran graveyard, Saturday. The services, which were largely attended, were conducted by Rev. William A. McKeefrey, (Winchester, Va.), a Catholic priest----the first to conduct such religious services in New Market "within the memory of the oldest citizens." Rev. McK. spent Friday night and part of Saturday in Quicksburg with Mr. Jerry McCarty and family.

Mr. Platt came to Page county from Cambria county, Pa., about 18 years ago. June 12, 1895, he married Miss Lucy F. Waters, and has been in charge of the Massanutten toll-gate, four miles east of New Market, for five years. They have no relations in this section, and Mrs. P. expects to move from the toll-gate at an early date.
