A. C. Campbell Dies at Hospital

Angus Carson Campbell, 67, a foreman at the Spotswood Orchard and a well-known resident of that community for the past 21 years, died Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Although Mr. Campbell had been in failing health for the past four weeks, he had been able to be up and around his home. His condition became critical last Thursday and he was admitted to the hospital on Saturday morning. News of his death was received with disbelief and sorrow among his many friends and acquaintances.

A son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George W. Campbell, he was born on October 5, 1883 at Timberville, where he attended public schools and spent the early part of his life.

On January 20, 1904, he was united in marriage to Miss Vertie Belle Weatherholtz and for ten years they made their home at Moore's Store, prior to moving to Quicksburg where they lived also for ten years. For the past 21 years, Mr. Campbell had made his home on Route No. 3, Harrisonburg. Mrs. Campbell preceded him in death on February 1, 1947.

Mr. Campbell was a man of a quiet and retiring disposition, with many fine qualities, whose main interests were centered around his family. He was a member of the Solomons Lutheran Church.

In 1948, he was united in marriage to Miss Hannah Mathias, of Broadway, who survives him.

Besides his wife, he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Bernie (Ethel) Silvius, Inwood, W. Va., Mrs. Elmer (Verdie) Secrist, Harrisonburg, Route No. 3 and Mrs. Stuart (Celia) Rogers, Harrisonburg, Route No. 2; one son, Lurty D. Campbell, Spotswood Orchard community; 13 grandchildren; five sisters, Mrs. Ruth Andes, Timberville; Mrs. Nettie Jenkins, Winchester; Mrs. Edna Daughtery, Decatur, Ala.; Mrs. Elizabeth Arnol and Mrs. Annie Williamson, both of Bloomington, Ill.; two brothers, Mark Campbell, Timberville, and Will Campbell, Tiffin, Ohio, and a number of nieces and nephews.

One daughter, Mrs. Ada Thomas, a son, Malcolm Campbell, and a brother, Jacob Campbell, preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at three o'clock from the Solomons Lutheran Church, near Forestville, with the Rev. Lloyd Gochenour in charge of the services. Burial will be in the family lot in the adjacent cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be: L. A. Boyers, Alfred Boyers, Ripley Miller, W. R. Knighting, A. D. Wise, Lloyd Blose, Owen Wisman and L. O. Myers.

Flowerbearers will be: Mrs. Wilda Billhimer, Miss Betty Knighting, Miss Frances Jarrels, Miss Phyllis Wisman, Miss Dot Tobin and Mrs. Mary Weekly.

The body now rests at the Lindsey Funeral Home on South Main Street, where it will remain until 2:30 this (Tuesday) afternoon when it will be taken to Mr. Campbell's late home.

Relatives, pallbearers and flower bearers are asked to meet at the Campbell residence, two miles east of Harrisonburg on the Elkton Pike, Wednesday afternoon at one-fifteen o'clock, where a brief service will be held prior to leaving for the church.
