Isaac Borum...Obituary The Shenandoah Herald, Woodstock, VA February 3, 1893: Strasburg Items, Isaac Borum--A large congregation of all citizens assembled at the church in this place on last Sunday at 3:00 p.m. to do honor to the memory and mourn the loss of our oldest male citizen, Mr. Isaac Borum who died on Friday night, January 27th at the advanced age of 85 years. Mr. Borum was a sterling citizen in all the relations of life, of husband, father and friend and went down to the grave sincerely mourned by all who knew him. Funeral obsequies were conducted by his pastor, Reverend L.L. Smith of the Lutheran Church of which denomination Mr. Borum was an exemplary member. |
Isaac was in Camp Chase, (a prison of Confederate soldiers in Columbus, OH) from May 22, to Sept. 9, 1864. Isaac was the postmaster in Strasburg for about ten years. The tombstone reads, "Isaac Borum-born Jan'y 23, 1807-died Jan'y 28, 1893, aged 86 yrs and 5 days", and that is the date on the Funeral Remembrance Card. His parents are unknown. His wife was Catharine Scotia (Scottie) Kellar, daughter of Michael and Catharine Monroe Kellar of Alexandria, VA. |
