Submitted by Donna Cox Briggs, member, Cemetery Survey Team of Northeast Tennessee:
Our cemetery survey team recently transcribed the Hickam Cemetery and thought you might like to post it on the web page. We usually try to stay in Tennessee, but occasionally we veer over the line a little bit. Our team photographs every tombstone in each cemetery we transcribe, and the photos and transcriptions are saved to Cds. I have included some census information...

HICKAM CEMETERY

Located on Spring Valley Circle, Gate City, Virginia (Scott County).  The cemetery is behind a mobile home on a small hill.  It has not been cared for in many years.  Several stones were broken and lying about. There is a concrete slab around a few graves with “Claymon” written on it.  There were three graves marked by fieldstones and three unmarked, sunken graves.

Photographed and transcribed 7 Nov 2004 by Jan Clark and Donna Briggs
