and Malinda Mullins. I have exhausted all my resources in Kentucky and must seek your support.
My relatives were born, reared,and married in either Scott or Russell County, Virginia. I
understand that James T. Stacy was born on 27 August 1821 and Malinda Mullins was born 18
December 1828. I understand that they were married about 1840.
The 1850 Census of Pike County, KY show James's initial with the letter L. I have also seen other letters for the same man. The 1850 census indicates that James and Malinda had the following children in Virginia (approximate year of birth show in prencesis) before moving to Kentucky about 1848: Rebecca [1841), Jemina (1844)(also spelled Jemimah and Jemminia), William (1846), and Lavicey (or Lathisa)(1847).
There is a William Stacy, David Mulhens,and (Tocid? or Locia? or Docia?) Mullens shown on some
the marriage papers of the the two oldest Stacy daughter. These people may be the grandparents
of the brides even though the spelling is difficult to understand at best.

July Ann Carter, b. abt. 1820 in eastern KY (Pike/Floyd County). She had an illegitimate
daughter named Mary Elizabeth Carter, b. 6-16-1846 in Pike Co., KY by William 'Bill' Bishop (b.
6-15-1810 in Elk Garden, Russell Co., VA; son of George Bishop & Nancy Anne Booth).
The 1850 Pike census shows July A. Carter, age 29 & Mary E. Carter, age 4 living in household of Moses Hunt (House #114, pg. 441; William Bishop is in House #81, pg. 439; Note: Moses Hunt was married to Bill's niece or sister, Polly Bishop). Both Carters are listed as born in Kentucky, but I think it is possible either she (or more likely, her parents) could have been born in Russell Co., VA.
As far as who her parents might be, the only Carter listed in the 1820 Floyd Co., KY census is a David Carter, 000001 00001 00 0 (meaning 1 male, 1 female, each 45+ in age).
The 1820 Russell Co.,VA census lists a Susannah (0 fem <10), Solomon (3 fem <10) and a James (1 fem <10), and a Mary Carter (1 fem 45+; 3 male slaves <14; 1male slave 26-45; 2 fem slaves <14; 1 fem slave 26-45; 1 fem slave 45+; and 1 free colored male 26-45).
The 1830 Russell Co., VA census has a Dale, a David, and a Solomon, all with girls about 10 yrs old.
The 1823 Pike Co. tax list has a William Cartee (maybe Carter?) The 1830 Pike Co. census has an Abner Carty
The only Carter in the 1840 Pike census is a Frederick (pg 272) - could be her father or her husband? (I haven't got the #s for Frederick's household yet)
I couldn't find July Ann in the 1860 or later Pike censuses. She may have died between 1850-1860?
Her daughter Mary Elizabeth Carter m. 1) John Mutter, and 2) John Ratliff, son of Silas & Mary Ratliff.
There might be a connection to the Carters of Jackson Co., West Virginia (where Bill Bishop's parents died). There was a July Ann Carter there (not the same person - but maybe a cousin or niece?): Julia (July) Ann Carter to John E. (R.) King, m. 2 Apr 1862, Jackson Co., WVa. She is in the 1850 Jackson Co. census: Julia b. abt. 1829, dtr of John W. Carter, Sr., sister of Powhatan Carter.
Does anyone recognize July Ann Carter?

several coal mines in the area and later was a blacksmith in Honaker and/or Tazewell. His step
father was Ramsey L. D. Pressley. He married Rachel Jane Beavers in Russell Co in 1908. He left
the area in about 1930 and moved to Jonben, WV.
There he married Virginia Helen Skeen Barbour and had 5 children. Virginia Skeen was descended
from Henry and Ossie Burke Skeen. Ossie Burke was the daughter of J. G. Burke, and had
brothers, Clarence, John, Charles, and Edd, and sisters, Ellen and Sophia).

or later. He is 80-90 years old on the Russell census of 1840, and not there on the 1850
census, so presumed to have died in Russell Co. in that time period.
Enoch first showed up in Washington Co. in 1782, married Mary Whitley d/o Robert Whitley in
1786, and no records are found again until Russell County tax lists fron 1797 onwards. As he
wasn't found on the tax lists when Russell was first formed from Washington Co. in 1793, or for
the next three years, he must have moved away, and later returned. Or maybe he was not in the
portion of Washington Co. that became Russell Co. until 1797.
