would like to find out more about him -- parents, origin, etc. The
addition of his will was wonderful to see (sure wish he had named his
girls by name in his will).
My ggg-grandmother was Celia McKinney born c1793 and married Elisha Hurst in Russell Co. c1813. Elisha was born (c1791) in the Castlewood area which was then Russell Co. and grew up and married there.
I may never be able to make a documented connection to James McKinney, but I believe he lived near the Hursts and Kisers which makes him a very likely candidate as Celia's father. The youngest of her 13 children she did name James. (Although James is also a "generational" Hurst name, there hadn't been any in my direct line for a couple of generations.)
Does anyone know the name of James McKinney's wife. (Celia had thirteen children, and maybe there will be a clue in her mother's name to tie in amongst her children. She had a John, Mary, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Levisa, Nancy, Henry Martin, Greenville Madison, Samuel Elsberry, Francis Jane, Julia Ann, Lafayette, and James.)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

1787 tax list of Russell County. He had surveys done in the early 1780's
according to L. P. Summers. He probably had a son named James Scott,
listed next to him in the 1787 tax list. L. P. Summers shows Alexander's
"actual date of settlement" as 1774.
My direct line settled in (present-day) Washington County, VA at about the same time. My 5th-gg, Samuel Scott Senior, is listed as a member of the Fincastle County militia in 1774. I'm trying to ascertain whether Alexander was related to Samuel Senior. It would be particularly helpful to know the names of Alexander's children, if he died in Russell County and left a will specifying them.
