my web site. He operated his photography studio near Nickelsville in Scott Co., VA, from 1903
to 1940. He traveled throughout Scott and Russell Counties to take pictures and many families
from Russell County visited his studio. I have about 600 of his glass negatives and I hope to
eventually get around to displaying all of them. I will place a set of photographs on my site
each week. Many of the persons or places have not been identified. If you have relatives who

marriage information for John Starnes and Sarah Jane Adams. Both were born around 1776,
reportedly in SW_VA. They married in the 1790s and moved to Hawkins Co., TN, about 1800. One
theory about this Sarah Jane Adams is that she is the Sarah Jane Adams whose father, Jesse, and
ten siblings were killed by Indians in 1782 near Blackmore's Fort, in what is now Russell
County. No proof of this exists at this time. Any information on either John Starnes (sometimes
recorded as Sterns, Stern, or Starns) or Sarah Jane Adams would be greatly appreciated.
