THOMAS, JOHNSON, ISAAC, HOUSTON, FULLER, DICKENSON, KING, ALLEY, SOUTH, BARBOUR, RHEA: My grandfather Rice THOMAS was born 4 Nov. 1883 IN Kentucky. His marriage certificate says LAURAL County, KY. I take the county with some suspicion though. He married my grandmother Della Mae JOHNSON(daughter of Mason Lafayette JOHNSON and Ellen HANEY, commonly called Lafayette) on 29 June, 1905, in Laurel County. Lafayette JOHNSON (b. 10/7/1858 d. 1/27/1954) and Ellen HANEY (b. 1/15/1860 d. 7/14/1947) are buried in Temple Hill Cemetary at Castlewood, VA. His father was Lafayette THOMAS and his mother was Elizabeth ISAAC. I believe that Lafayette may have been a middle name. I don't know the date of birth of Rice's parents. There are records that state Lafayette was born in OWSLEY and also in BREATHITT. There are records that state Elizabeth was born in JACKSON. Lafayette died at the age of 38 and Elizabeth died at the age of 62. I don't know their birth dates, death dates or where they are buried. Rice had 5 brothers and 1 sister. Lina THOMAS was born in 1876 and married Warren HOUSTON in 1898. The brothers were BLUFORD, ANDERSON, LEE, SAM, and BILL. This is all I have on Rice's parents. Word is that several of the brothers went back to Owsley County. Lina Houston stayed in East Bernstadt and was a widow by
the 1910 census of Laural County. Word is Warren went to the store one day and was never seen again. The Laural County 1900 census shows an Elizabeth Thomas with two sons Anderson and Isaac B. This may be my gr grandmother and Isaac B. may be Bluford. The approximate ages I have on them fit the census data. Rice and Della lived in Dante, Va, Russell County until their deaths. Rice died 5/15/1966 and Della died 2/28/1957, both are buried in Temple Hill Cemetary at Castlewood, VA. Rice worked for the Clinchfield Coal Company at Dante. They had seven (7) daughters and one (1) son. Edith THOMAS (b. 5/17/1907 d. 8/1983, Granville, OH) married Isaac FULLER (b. 5/25/1901 d. 2/11/1967,
Granville, OH). Inez Cuba THOMAS (b. 10/28/1907, Seaboard, Tazwell, d. 11/7/1996 at Roanoke) married James Crockett THOMAS (b. 5/9/1897 Cleveland, Russell, d. 1/1968 Dante), both are buried in Temple Hill
