In the name of God, Amen. I John Sykes being weak in body but of sound mind and disposing memory and wishing to settle my wordly affairs to my mind, do make this my last Will and Testament revokeing all other wills or parts of Wills by me heretofore made to wit. Firstly, it is my will and desire that that my grandson Levy Sykes to have one hundred and sixty dollars which I have lond to him in my lifetime and three head of horses he had in his possession to hold him and his airs forever. Secondly it is my will and desire that my son James Sykes shold hold all my lands and tenements during his natural life and after his death it is my will and desire for it to go to my grand daughter Eliza Sykes. Thirdly it is my will and desire that my grand daughter Eliza Sykes have one bed and furniture and one cow and calf and all my household furniture. Fourthly it is my will and desire that all my surplus money if enney should be equally devided between my too sons James Sykes and John Sykes. At a Court held for Russell County on the 8th day of July 1851.
This Testament of writing was exhibited in Court as and for the last Will and Testament of John Sykes deceased and proven by the oaths of Drury Puckett and Samuel Puckett the subscribing witnesses thereto, and ordered to be recorded and on the motion of John F. McElhenney who made oath, and together with Isaac Vermillion his Security entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of one hundred dollars conditioned according to law, certificate is granted him for obtaining letters of administration on sound decedents estate with his will ammended in due form.
