In the name of God amen Be it remembered that I James Hendrix of Russell County and State of Virginia being weak in body but of sound mind and perfect in memory calling to mind the mortality of my body first I recommend my soul to God who gave it Secondly my body to be buried in a decent manner: I do make this my last will and testament and publish the same in manner and form following that is to say first of all the lands with the apputenances thereon I do bequeath to my wife Sarah during her widowhood and at her death to be divided equally with the appurtenances thereon amongst James, Anderson, John and Aron and Thomas Hendrixes children is to have a childs part divided amongst them out of these lands at my wifes death Secondly I bequeath to my two daughters single women a horse apece worth seventy dollars and saddle apece the balance of the horses to be sold on a twelve month credit that is not needed for the farm the profit arising from this sale to be equally divided amongst all the gals at Sarahs death and the horses that remain likewise on the farm. Thirdly at her death all the other property is to be equally divided amongst Anna, James, Anderson, Rachel, Pheby, John, Aron, Susannah Forthly I bequeath to my elder son Thomas one dollar to be paid to him by my executors out of the estate - Fifthly I do bequeath to my wife Sarah Betty a colored woman after twelve month to be hurse until her death then to be divided equally divide amongst the gals. I heare appoint Sarah my wife and James Hendrix my son the sole executors of this my Last Will and testament revoking all other wills by me made In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this the 15 day of March in the year of our Lord 1817

I James Hendrix of Russell County and State of Virginia do this the 15th March 1817 make and publish this codicile to my last will ans testament in manner following that is to say I give to John and Aron my two youngest sons each of them a horse to be worth $70 dollars and each of them a saddle a peace to be worth $15 dollars as tha come of age John is to have my new big coat and James is to have my new broadcloth coat and Anderson and John and Aron is to have two hundred dollars each of them paid out of the estate and Pheby & Susanah each of them is to have each of them a cow as tha come of age and lastly it tis my desire that this my present codicile be annexed to and a part of my last will and testament to all intents and purposes I have hereunto set my hand and seal

At a court held for Russell County the 1st day of April 1817
This instrument of writing was exhibited in court as and for the last Will and testament of James Hendricks dec'd & with a codicile thereto annexed was proved by the oaths of James Hendricks Anderson Hendricks and Sally Sifers the subscribing witnesses thereto and ordered to be recorded And the executrix and executor therein named here in court refused to take upon themselves the further of the execution of said Will.
At a court held for Russell County the 6th day of May 1817
On motion of James Hendricks and Aaron Hendricks it is ordered that they be appointed administrators with the will annexed of James Hendricks dec'd on their complying with the law in that case provided whereupon the said James Hendricks made oath as the law directs and entered into and acknowledged a bond in the penalty of four thousand dollars conditioned according to law with William Necessary and George Kindrick his securities certificate is granted to the said James Hendricks for obtaining administration as aforesaid liberty reserved for the said Aaron to join in the said administration whenever hereafter he may think proper to do so - And at a court held for said county the 1st day of Jul 1817
Aaron Hendricks who was appointed at a former court to be administrator with James hendricks with the will annexed of James Hendricks dec'd this day made oath as the law directs and together with Daniel Horton his security entered into bond in the penalty of four thousand dollars conditioned according to law and thereupon certificate is granted the said Aaron Hendricks in conjunction with the said James
