Spencer Hadley & Catherine "Lockhart' Speer Family

Spencer Hadley Speer was born in 1842 in Yadkin Co., N.C., the son of Barzella Speer and Susan Woodruff. In 1850 the family moved to the Elk Garden section of Russell Co. On 06 May 1867, he married Catherine Lockhart, the daughter of James and Milly Lockhart. Catherine was born in Russell Co. in 1846. Spencer and Catherine had 9 children: Arthur, 1868; Sarah Alice, 1870; Cora, 1872; Gertrude, 1873; James, 1878; Ellen, 1879; Thomas, 1883; Hattie Lucille, 1884; and Samuel, 1885. Catherine died 06 Mar 1885 from consumption and on 29 Sep 1888, Spencer married Theresa Henderson. In 1889, Spencer and Theresa had twins, a girl which was stillborn and a boy named Roy. Roy died in 1907. Spencer Speer died in 1911.
