Martin Orbin Wells was born 11 May 1850 in Patrick Co., Va., the son of Edward Wells and America Griffin. On 23 Jan 1875, in Russell Co., Va., he married Mary Jane Israel, the daughter of William Israel and Mariah Griffin. Mary Jane was born on 15 May 1853, also in Patrick Co., Va. Martin and Mary Jane had eight children: William Edward, James, Enoch Beverly, Thomas Jefferson, Martin Everett, Arlenia Myrtle, Vernon Mays and Irene Bertha. Martin died 14 Jan 1924 and Mary Jane 14 Oct 1924. They are buried near their home in Swords Creek, Va.
