James W. & Lydia "Combs" Gent

James W. Gent was born abt. 1807, probably in Tazewell Co. VA, the son of Mark Gent and Polly Robertson. About 1834, in Russell Co. VA, he married Lydia Combs, daughter of William Combs and Anna Thompson. Lydia was born abt. 1810 in Russell Co., VA. James & Lydia Gent had seven children: 1) Ann Eliza, b. abt. 1835, 2) Jacob C., b. abt. 1836, 3) Margaret Jane, abt. 1839, 4) Sarah Catherine, abt. 1840, 5) William, abt. 1842, 6) Eveline, abt. 1843 and Albert, abt. 1846. Lydia had previously had a son, Fielding, b. 20 Sep 1830, by a man believed to be named Hague. Fielding was raised by James Gent and took the Gent name. James Gent died abt. Jan 1877. It is unknown exactly when Lydia died. She was living with her daughter Sarah & step-son Jefferson J. Kiser in the 1880 Russell County census.
