James Dye was born about 1839 in Russell Co., Virginia, the son of John Dye and Nancy Little. On 06 Sep 1860 he married his first cousin, Nancy Dye, the daughter of Pryor Dye, Sr. and Carlotta Carter. James and Nancy had eight children: 1) Polly b: 15 Sep 1861; 2) Sarah E. b: abt 1862, married 1st James Charlie McNulty, 2nd Samuel Reedy and third a Pruitt; 3) Mariah F. b: 15 Mar 1866, married Henry Miller; 4) Caroline b: 21 Oct 1867, married John Cox; 5) Mary Alice b: 27 Dec 1868, married Elihue Dye, son of Pryor Dye, Jr. and Sarah Williams; 6) Rebecca b: 22 Sep 1871, married 1st her uncle William Dye, son of Pryor Dye, Sr. and Carlotta Carter and 2nd William H. Musick; 7) Priscilla b: 01 May 1873; and 8) Nancy Catherine b: 22 Nov 1874, married William H. Reedy, son of Samuel Reedy, above, and Elizabeth Clear. James Dye died 04 Feb 1919 and was buried in the James Dye family cemetery.
