Jacob Thompson was born in Russell County, Virginia on 06 Jan 1824, the son of John Thompson & Virginia "Jane" Fletcher. He first married Joannah Owens, daughter of Abraham & Jemima Owens abt 1842. Joannah was born abt. 1824 in Russell County and died 13 Mar 1862. Jacob & Joannah Thompson had eight children, William Abraham born 26 Jan 1843, Leah Jane born abt 1844, Sydney born abt 1846, Emory F. born abt 1848, Alderson J. born 25 Nov 1849, Lindsey S. born abt Feb 1851, Zadock N. born abt Jan 1853 & George C. born 10 Nov 1855. Jacob Thompson married second on 21 Oct 1862, Maria Hart Smith, daughter of Stephen & Frances Smith. Maria was born abt 1828 in Russell County. Jacob & Maria Thompson had six children, Lorenzo born abt 1863, Henry E. born 01 Apr 1865, Hugh born abt 1866, Martha D. born 05 Dec 1866, Mary Belle born abt May 1870 & Patty born abt 1874. Family tradition is that Jacob Thompson lived to be 104 years of age, placing his death abt 1928.
