Capt. Henry Hopkins Dickenson

Captain Henry Hopkins Dickenson was born 23 May, 1837, near Carterton,
Russell Co., Va., the son of Charles Carroll Dickenson and Catherine
Counts. On 10 Jul 1861, Henry enlisted in the service for the Confederate
States of America in Co. A, 29th VA Infantry and was commissioned as a 2nd
Lt. On. 13 May 1862 he was promoted to 1st Lt. and on 03 Jun 1862 to
Captain. He remained in this capacity for the remainder of the Civil War.
On 25 Oct 1868 he married Cornelia Winston Quarles of Bedford Co., Va.,
the daughter of Giles & Martha Quarles. Henry and Cornelia had six
children, Charles, Ella, Alberta, Giles, Edward and Kate. In 1881, He
was elected Clerk of the Circuit Court of Russell Co. and served two
terms. Henry Dickenson died 27 Nov 1903 and was buried in the North
Church Street Cemetery in Lebanon.
