Laban Clark Phillips was born in Russell Co., Va. on 14 Feb 1845 the son of Laban Phillips and Anna Mariah Deaton. On 15 Nov 1866 in Wise Co., Va., he married Lydia Smith, the daughter of George Washington Smith and Phoebe Musick. Lydia was born in Russell Co., Va. in 1849. Laban and Lydia lived in West Dante and Castlewood. They had the following children: 1) Romulus, b: 28 Aug 1867; 2) Rosa B., b: 01 Jun 1869; 3) Christopher C., b: 04 Jun 1871; 4) Henry J., b: 09 Mar 1873; 5) George C., b: 01 Apr 1876; 6) Phoebe, b: 07 Mar 1878; 7) Mariah, b: 14 Dec 1879; 8) Nathan J., b: 12 Aug 1881; 9) Harman, b: 14 Dec 1883; 10) William J., b: 16 Oct 1885 and 11) Carter, b: Nov 1887. Laban Clark Phillips died 24 Jun 1928.
