Christopher S. Counts

Christopher S. Counts. Son of Philip Counts and Julia Gose was born March 4, 1817 in Russell County, Va. His wife was Mary Ann Bishop. He moved to Carter County, Ky. in the early 1840's where he bought large quantities of land. He was probably named for his maternal grandfather Christopher Gose. He may have been the first of his family in Carter County, Ky. but a number of brothers, sisters and even his father Philip later lived in the area. The community of Counts Crossroads received its name from this family. He died February 2, 1902. His daughter Sarah Ann Counts married David Otho Madden and moved to Texas. The exact date of this tintype is unknown but based on his age it probably was between 1870 and 1880.
