Jacob McLaughlin who resides in the County of Russell in the State of Virginia, wishing to become a pensioner pursuant to the provisions of an Act of Congress of the United States, passed on the 18th day of March, 1818, entitled "An Act to provide for certain persons engaged in the land and naval service of the United States in the Revolutionary War," personally appeared in Court, and declared on oath that he enlisted with Lieut. Henderson in the North Carolina Line, and served three years in the Revolutionary War in Capt. Michael Dixon's Company, Colo. Samuel Jack commander. He was at the battle of St. Marys, Georgia, Governor Houston Commanded at the battle of Savannah and at Augusta. He finally served in the Georgia State Legion; The said Jacob McLaughlin presented to the Court a writing purporting to be a discharge from the said last mentioned service, of which the following is a copy: "I hereby certify that Jacob Lohorn soldier in the Georgia State Legion is discharged during which space he on all occasions has behaved himself as a brave solier and worthy Citizen of the United States. Augusta, August 13, 1781. H. Allison, Capt. Infantry", And it appears satisfactorily to the Court that the said Jacob McLaughlin is a person of credit as a witness; that it was generally understood in the neighborhood of the residence of the said Jacob McLaughlin previous to the passage of the said Act of Congress that the said Jacob McLaughlin had served in the Revolutionary War; and that the said Jacob McLaughlin is in such reduced circumstances in life as to need assistance from his country for support. All which is ordered to be certified to the Secretary of the Department of War.
