Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to whom the presents shall come, greeting: Know ye that by virtue of part of a certificate in right of settlement given by the commissioners for adjusting the Titles to unpatented lands in the district of Washington and Montgomery & in consideration of the ancient composition of fifteen shillings sterling paid by Thomas Ferrel into the treasury of this Commonwealth there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said Ferrel a certain tract or parcel of land containing one hundred and forty two acres by survey bearing date the twenty first day of March one thousand seven hundred and eighty three lying and being in the County of Washington on both sides of a small branch the waters of Thompsons Creek a branch of Clinch River and bounded as followeth to wit, Beginning a a large white oak, dogwood and sugar tree sapling on the side of a hill by a path and running thence north twenty five degrees west sixty four poles to a large white oak south fifty seven degrees west seventy seven poles to a white oak ash, and dogwood saplings on a brushy ridge, south seventy one degrees west one hundred and thirty four poles to a sugar tree and beach saplings on the top of a spur south five degrees west twenty six poles to a large white oak on the top of said spur south sixty five degrees west one hundred and two poles to three elms and a white walnut saplings in a hollow by a branch south five degrees east forty one poles to a double ash sapling in the head of said hollow by a path south fifty three degrees east thirty nine poles to a large elm and black oak in a hollow north sixty one degrees east three hundred and twenty one poles along a large ridge to the Beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its apputenances, to the said Thomas Ferrel and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said Patrick Henry Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand, and caused the lesser seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond, on the twentieth day of March in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred and eighty five and of the Commonwealth the ninth.
