John Page esquire, governor of the commonwealth of Virginia:
To all to whom these presents shall come greeting.
Know Ye That by virtue of a land office treasury warrant, number two
thousand three hundred and fifty nine, issued the thirtieth day of December
seventeen hundred and ninety seven, there is granted by the said
commonwealth unto Peter Bays assignee of Jacob Crabtree, a certain tract or
parcel of land, containing seventy six acres by survey bearing date the
second day of January eighteen hundred, lying and being in the county of
Russell, on the south side of the War ridge, and on the north side of the
south fork of Cedar creek, a part of the waters of Clinch river, and
bounded as followeth to wit: Beginning at two white-oaks and a black oak,
a corner to said Crabtree, then south eighty eight degrees, west forty
poles to a sugar tree, and black oak, near the top of said ridge, south
twenty four degrees west two hundred and twelve poles to four white-oaks on
a ridge, south twenty-one degrees, east thirty poles to a white-oak and
black oak near, a line of said Crabtrees, and with the same north fifty
three degrees, east seventy two poles to a chestnut and beech, a corner to
said Crabtree and with another of his lines north seventeen degrees east,
forty four poles to a double sycamore at the foot of a ridge north thirty
five degrees, east sixty eight poles with another of his lines to three
Spanish oaks, and with another of his lines north two degrees, east eighty
poles to the beginning with its appurtenances; To have and to hold the
said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Peter Bays
and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said John Pageesquire
governor of the commonwealth of Virginia hath hereunto set his hand and
caused the lesser seal of the said commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond,
on the twentieth day of March in the year of our Lord, one thousand eight
hundred and four and four and of the commonwealth the twenty eighth.
